Uptimia Review 2023: Is It Worth Your Money?

By Aquif Shaikh

Feb 24, 2023

Uptimia is one of the latest additions to the Uptime Monitoring Tools. So is Uptimia worth it? Should you go with Uptimia or stick with existing tools like Uptime Robot?

We'll find out the same in this Uptimia Review 2022. Please note, I've extensively used Uptimia for the past 2 days and explored its features and hence I am in a good position to write an honest review of Upimia.

If you found the review to be helpful, please consider using my affiliate link to make the purchase. Anyway, so without any further ado, let's go straight to the review.

Uptimia Review 2022

Features

Uptimia offers some great features including Uptime Monitoring, SSL Monitoring, Speed Monitoring, Real User Monitoring, Transaction Monitoring and Public Status Pages

User Friendliness

Setting up Uptimia is pretty Straightforward and does not require any major skills. Only setting up real user monitor requires tech skills. The UX is neat and self explanatory.

Customer Support

I've sent my queries to the customer support team thrice. Two times the customer support was quick to solve my queries. Still waiting for latest query (It's a weekend)

Summary:  Uptimia is an easy to use tool with nice UX. Apart from Uptime monitoring for Websites, Networks and Emails, it offers lots of additional useful features including Website Speed Monitoring, SSL Monitoring, Real User Monitoring and Transaction Monitoring.

The 171 uptime testing locations offered by Uptimia is more than the best in the industry with Pingdom claiming to offer over 70 locations. It integrates with several tools for sending downtime notifications.

On the downside, the status pages of Uptimia are very basic and lacking any graphical interface. SMS notifications too are limited to US and Canada.

Overall it's a great tool to have. However, the Uptimia Lifetime Deal on AppSumo makes it a steal deal. So make sure to grab this deal before its gone.

Pros And Cons Of Uptimia

Pros Of Uptimia

  • Easy To Get Started: Uptimia is designed to be very user-friendly and easy to navigate. The interface is clean and simple, making it easy for even first-time users to find their way around the tool.
  • Uptime Monitoring Locations: Uptimia offers one of the most extensive uptime monitoring networks in the market, with 171 locations around the globe.
  • Additional Features: In addition to uptime monitoring, Uptimia also offers features such as website speed monitoring, real user monitoring, SSL monitoring, and transaction monitoring.
  • Automatic Notifications: Uptimia can send automatic notifications via multiple channels, including email, SMS, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord, Telegram, and more.
  • Maintenance Windows: With Uptimia, you can easily add maintenance windows so that your monitoring will be paused during those times.
  • Public Status Pages: Uptimia provides public status pages that you can use to share your uptime with clients or visitors.
  • Schedule Reports: Uptimia allows you to schedule reports to be sent out to your or your client's email.
  • Custom Branding: Uptimia gives you the ability to customize the colors and branding of the tool and the reports generated to match your own.
  • GDPR Compliant: Uptimia takes data privacy and security seriously and is compliant with GDPR regulations.
  • Good Customer Support: I've contacted Uptimia's customer support team thrice. The first two times, the response was fast. They solved one of my queries and promised to consider one of my suggestions. The third time, I am yet to get a reply. However, since it's a weekend and the AppSumo Deal is live, I don't expect a prompt response.

Cons of Uptimia

  • No Free plan: Uptimia does not offer a free plan, which may be a turnoff for some users.
  • SMS Notifications: Uptimia offers SMS notifications in the US and Canada only.
  • Reporting Filters: Uptimia's reports lack annual and lifetime filters for all its reports. So you have to manually select the duration using the custom range filter for any period longer than monthly.
  • Public Status Pages Are Basic: The public status pages are very basic and lack any graphic representation.

Overall Rating For Uptimia

Uptimia Review 2022: Is It Worth Your Money?

So let us go through the detailed review of Uptimia.

About Uptimia

Uptimia is a SaaS-based tool that allows you to monitor your website's uptime, it's page speed, and SSL status. You can also use Uptimia to monitor your real users as well as make sure your cart flow or signup flow is working flawlessly.

This one might sound a bit strange. However, Uptimia does not have an About Us Page on its website.

I had to dig deep into their Terms and Conditions to find out that the parent company of Uptimia is JJ Online GmbH which is a company based in Berlin, Germany.

Naturally, that's the only information I have about Uptimia.

Features of Uptimia

Uptimia, as such, is a feature-rich tool. Below are some of the features you get with the paid plan of Uptimia.

1. Uptime Monitoring

As you can probably make out from the name, Uptimia is primarily an Uptime Monitoring tool. Here''s how the Uptime Monitoring Interface of Uptimia looks like

Uptimia Uptime Monitoring Interface

You can monitor uptime for websites, network as well as Email service.

Uptimia Types Of Uptime Monitor

You can use either GET, POST or POST(raw string) request types to check if your website is up. You can also setup Uptimia to monitor Keywords on your page to mark the server as Up.

Uptimia Review

You can use Uptimia to monitor your website's uptime from 171 locations around the world. Uptime can be checked every minute for their Starter and Standard plans while it is 30 seconds for their Advanced and Enterprise plans.

Uptimia Available Monitoring Locations

On the higher end, you can have Uptimia to check uptime every 60 minutes. But I am not sure why anyone would want to do that.

One of the great things about Uptimia is that if it detects downtime, it again rechecks your website three more times before notifying you.

Downtime notifications can be sent through various channels including Email, SMS, WhatsApp, Telegram Slack, Discord, Microsoft Teams, PageDuty, Atlassian Statuspage, Mattermost, Twilio, Twitter as well as custom WebHooks.

You can select multiple contacts and channels to be notified in the case of downtime. This feature is especially helpful if you have a large team who needs to be notified about downtime.

You can also choose to be notified instantly or after up to 30 minutes from the time of downtime.

Uptimia Notification Settings

The advanced tab of Uptimia Settings allows you to select Timeout Settings, Error types to be reported, and mark rejected HTTP response types. You can also choose whether to follow HTTP redirects or not.

Uptimia Advanced Settings

Uptimia also allows you to group various monitors for easy filtering. Quite helpful if you want to group monitors for a client or Multiple monitors for a domain name.

Uptimia Groups

The last option is to select the monitoring locations or as they call Probe Locations. By default, Uptimia will check your uptime from all of its 171 locations one by one. However, if you have a local Business, you can select it to monitor uptime only from that location.

Uptimia Monitoring Locations
Why Is Monitoring Uptime Necessary?

If your website is down, you must be able to detect it ASAP as it can lead to several problems. Below are some of the reasons why Uptime Monitoring is necessary.

  • Preventing loss of revenue: If your website is down, you are losing out on potential customers and revenue.
  • Avoiding SEO issues: Downtime can affect the crawling of your website. Frequent downtime can cause indexing issues.
  • Prevent the loss of reputation: If your website is down often, it will damage your brand's reputation.
  • Avoid customer dissatisfaction: If your website is down, your customers will be dissatisfied with your service and might move to your competitor's website.
  • Detect DDoS Attacks Faster: DDoS attacks can cause your website to go down. If you have Uptimia monitoring your website, you will be able to detect such attacks faster and take necessary measures to mitigate them.

2. Website Speed Monitoring

Uptimia also allows you to monitor your Website's Speed. Here's how the interface of Website Speed Monitoring Tool looks like.

Uptimia Website Speed Monitoring Tool

Like in the case of Uptime Monitoring you can set the speed checking duration to as low as 1 minute with their Standard, Advanced, and Enterprise plan.

For the Starter plan, the speed checking is limited to once in 5 minutes. On the higher end, you can set it up to 60 minutes.

By default, Uptimia will check the speed from its 171 locations one by one. So, a speed check from New York will be performed once in 171 minutes if you set the speed checking duration to 1 minute.

You can, however, choose the locations that you want Uptimia to check your page speed from. Again, helpful if you have a local website.

As for the notifications, you can choose to get notifications through one of the available channels that we discussed earlier when your average website loading time increases above x seconds in the last y minutes.

The value of x varies from 1 second to 30 seconds while the value of y varies from 20 minutes to 60 minutes.

Uptimia Speed Monitoring Settings

Again, you can group the monitors for better organization.

Uptimia Speed Monitoring Settings
Why Is Speed Monitoring Necessary?

Monitoring your website's speed is important for the following reasons

  • Improve SEO: Google considers website speed as a ranking factor. So, if your website is slow, you might lose out on potential customers.
  • Improve User Experience: A fast website will improve user experience and decrease the bounce rate.
  • Increase Revenue: A fast website will lead to more conversions and hence more revenue.

3. SSL Certificate Monitoring

Uptimia allows you to monitor the validity of your SSL certificate and will notify you through the available channels when it is about to expire. Here's how the SSL Certificate Monitoring Interface looks like

Uptimia SSL Monitoring Interface

You can set the expiration threshold from 3 days to 90 days. As for the SSL certificate health checking duration, you can set it anywhere between 10 minutes to 60 minutes intervals.

Again, you can group the SSL certificate monitor and also select the locations for monitoring.

Why Is SSL Monitoring Necessary?

An SSL certificate is necessary for the following reasons:

  • Improve SEO: Google gives preference to websites that have an SSL certificate as it is a sign of trustworthiness.
  • Increase Security: An SSL certificate will encrypt the communication between your website and the user's browser. This will prevent hackers from sniffing out sensitive information like passwords and credit card details.
  • Build trust: An SSL certificate will build trust with your users as they will know that their information is safe with you.
  • Avoid browser warnings: If your website does not have an SSL certificate, browsers will show a warning to the users when they try to access your website. This will lead to a loss of trust and might also result in the user leaving your website.

4. Real User Monitoring

Real User Monitor is used for monitoring how your website loads for real users. This includes measuring page load times as well as Javascript errors.

To get started with Real User Monitoring, you will have to install a Javascript code on your website for measuring the Real User data.

The Real User Monitoring tool provides you with a lot of useful data about your page load times for real users. This is how the basic summary interface of the Real User Monitoring Tool looks like.

The settings are pretty straightforward for Real User Monitoring. Apart from your website name and website URL, there's an Outage Alerting option that alerts you when you don't get any traffic to your website in the set amount of time that you can set to anywhere between 5 minutes to 60 minutes in the last

Uptimia Real User Monitoring Settings Outage Alerting

This feature although intended for monitoring outages, it can also be used to monitor any issues with your website traffic.

Likewise, the drop in traffic alerting feature will send out notifications if your website traffic falls below the threshold value ranging from 30% to 100% in the last 5 to 60 minutes.

Uptimia Real User Monitoring Settings Drop In Traffic Alerting

The performance alerting feature will notify you when your page speed for real users drops below a certain threshold ranging from 30% to 100% in the last 5 to 60 minutes.

Uptimia Real User Monitoring Settings Performance Alerting

Likewise, the threshold can also be defined for Javascript errors.

Uptimia Real User Monitoring Settings Javascript Errors Alerting

In addition to that, you can also select how fast your website has to load to make sure they have a good experience. Any drop in that value and you will be notified about the same.

Uptimia Real User Monitoring Settings Visitor Satisfactoriness Alerting

Why Is Real User Monitoring Important?

Real User Monitoring is important to improve your user's overall experience. Unlike Synthetic Monitoring, Real User Monitoring will give you an insight into how your website loads for actual users.

You can sort the data based on pages, countries, browsers as well as devices. This will help you identify any issues that might be affecting your user's experience and take steps to fix them.

5. Transaction Monitoring

This is one of the interesting features of Uptimia. It allows you to monitor if the transactions flow on your website is working as intended. The transaction could be anything from eCommerce Purchases to Subscriber Signups to Form Submissions.

You can monitor if each step in the flow is working fine. For example, if you have an e-commerce website, then you can set up a transaction monitor to track the purchase of a product.

I haven't yet set up a Transaction monitor so can't post a screenshot of it's interface. Coming to the settings, the first step is to select the URL of the page where the first transaction takes place. Click on Load to load the page.

Uptimia Transaction Monitoring Settings

In the next step, you can either Choose a command or Choose Validation

Uptimia Transaction Monitoring Settings

You can choose one of the following commands

  • Click on Element
  • Fill in the field with Text
  • Check Checkbox
  • Uncheck Checkbox
  • Select Radio Button
  • Select the Dropdown menu

You might have to choose multiple commands to complete a task. Depending on what you choose, you will be asked to first select the CSS identifier for the element.

If you've loaded the page, you will see all the CSS elements in the dropdown menu. In the image below, I've used the click element button. Hence, Uptimia shows me CSS Selector for all the elemnts on the page as shown in the image below.

Uptimia Transaction Monitoring Settings

If you choose the Choose Validation option, you will see the below validation options

  • Check If URL Is...
  • Check If HTTP Status Is...
  • Check For Existence Of Element
  • Check For Text In Content
  • Check Status Of Checkbox
  • Check Status Of Radio Button
  • Check Status Of Dropdown Menu

In the image below, I have chosen the Check For Existence Of Element option and accordingly Uptimia shows me a list of CSS Selectors to pick from

Uptimia Transaction Monitoring Settings

Likewise, you have to define every step in the flow. Uptimia will follow these steps every 10 minutes to 12 hours, depending on the value you set.

Uptimia Transaction Monitoring Settings

If any of the steps fail, Uptimia will send a notification to you informing about the same.

Why Is Monitoring Transactions Important?

Monitoring Transactions is important as it allows you to track the most important user flows on your website. This will help you identify any issues that might be affecting these flows and take steps to fix them.

You certainly don't want to have a broken checkout process that affects your sales, right?

6. Public Status Pages

Uptimia also has a Public Status Page feature that allows you to share the status of your website with anyone. You can choose which monitors you want to include on the Status Page.

The Public Status Page is fully customizable and you can even add your own logo to it. You can also have a custom domain or custom subdomain for your status pages. Below image shows a screenshot of Blogging Ocean's Status Page

Uptimia Blogging Ocean Status Page

In the settings section of your status page, you can choose to display or hide the following

  • Incidents History: If you disable it, Uptimia will only show the current statuses of your monitors.
  • Current Incidents: You can enable this option if you want to write status updates for problematic monitors.
  • Scheduled Maintenances: You can also choose to show any scheduled maintenances that you wish to carry out.
  • Display Uptimia Link: By default, Uptimia will not show any branding on status pages. However, you can choose to show Uptimia Link in the footer.
Why Are Public Status Pages Important?

Public Status Pages are important to share the status of your website with anyone. It can be your customers, partners, or investors.

This will help build trust and transparency. Moreover, it can also help you keep your stakeholders informed about any issues that might be affecting your website.

7. Scheduled Reports

You can choose to send scheduled reports to yourself, your clients, and your partners at a frequency that can be set to daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, or yearly.

In the reports, you can choose to send the following details

  • Incidents: You can either show details of each incident or just the number of incidents
  • Maintenance Windows: You can choose to show or hide maintenance windows
  • PDF Report: You can choose whether or not to attach a PDF report
  • HTML Report: You can choose whether or not to attach an HTML report
  • CSV Report: You can choose whether or not to attach a CSV report

Apart from this, you can also choose the branding for the scheduled reports. This is how the report looks like

Uptimia Report

8. Custom Reports

Custom reports are similar to Scheduled reports except that you can choose to send one when you wish. Except for the frequency of reports, you can find all the options mentioned in the Scheduled reports in Custom reports too.

However, in the case of custom reports, instead of just sending the reports through one of the channels, you can also choose to download the reports or create a shareable public link for the same.

Uptimia Alternatives

If you’re not sure if Uptimia is the right fit for you, then this section will help you decide. Below are some of the best alternatives to Uptimia

1. Uptime Robot

Uptime Robot is one of the most popular alternatives to Uptimia. It has a generous free plan that allows you to host up to 50 monitors with the limitation being the uptime check frequency which is a minimum of 5 seconds.

However, Uptime Robots does not have many Uptime Checking Locations. It mostly checks the uptime from Dallas, US with 16 other locations for confirming the down statuses.

2. Solarwinds Pingdom

Pingdom is another popular alternative to Uptimia. It is a part of the SolarWinds family of products.

Pingdom isn't affordable by any means with its based plan for Synthetic Monitoring starting at $15/month for 10 Uptime Checks and 1 Advanced Check along with 150 SMS.

Real User Monitoring will cost you another $15 per month for 100,000 Page Views. However, if you chose to pay yearly, both plans are priced at $10/month, which is still on the higher side.

3. StatusCake

StatusCake is another alternative to Uptimia with a free tier that allows you to monitor up to 10 websites with a 5-minute frequency. You can also monitor Page Speed for 1 website with the free plan.

StatusCake's paid plans start at $24.49/month when you pay monthly and $20.41 when you pay yearly. This is the costliest when you consider the plan cost.

However, when you take into account the benefits you get and the number of monitors you get, the deal is decent and at par with others.

Final Verdict On Uptimia

Uptimia is a great tool that offers great features like Uptime Monitoring, Page Speed Monitoring, SSL Monitoring, Real User Monitoring and Transaction Monitoring at an affordable pricing.

Yes, it does have it drawbacks like a very basic status page and SMS notifications limited to US and Canada. However, it's still a new tool and from my limited interaction with the team, they are open to suggestions and keen on making Uptimia one of the best tools.

However, given that they are offering Lifetime Deal on AppSumo for as low as $69, I'd say it's a steal deal even if Uptimia does not add more features to it. So make sure not miss this insane deal.
