Fastest WordPress Hosting UK 2023

Below are the top WordPress hosting companies in the UK that offer great performance, security, and support.

1. Cloudways - Fastest WordPress Hosting UK

Cloudways Logo

4.7

Cloudways Summary

Summary: Cloudways is the best WordPress Hosting for UK if you are looking for a fast website that gets a lot of traffic. Since Cloudways uses servers from the likes of Digital Ocean, AWS, and GCP, it is highly scalable. All the Cloud Hosting partners of Cloudways have a data center in London.

  • Hosting Type: Managed WordPress (VPS)
  • Nearest Server: London
  • Pricing: Starting $11/month + Extra Min $0.5 for offsite backups

Special Offer: Blogging Ocean readers get free $20 Hosting Credits (Coupon Code HB20) or 25% off for 3 months (Coupon Code BO25)

Cloudways Details

If you are looking for a WordPress hosting option that is both fast and reliable, then Cloudways is the way to go.

With over 3 million customers worldwide, they are one of the most popular choices when it comes to WordPress hosting.

Although, technically Cloudways is not a Web Hosting company. They are rather PaaS providers that procure servers from popular cloud hosting companies like Digital Ocean, Amazon Web Server, and Google Cloud Platform and add their own optimization and control panel so that you don't have to get into the hassles of managing your cloud server

All the cloud providers available at Cloudways have a data center in London. So, you have multiple options to choose from.

Another thing that works in the favor of Cloudways is that it does not restrict you to hosting only WordPress Websites.

Also, Cloudways does not optimize the entire server for a particular application. Rather opitmizations are added at the application level.

So, you can run an optimized Magento Store along with an optimized WordPress blog on the same server. Talking about Cloudways WordPress stack, it is a customized stack they call is Thunderstack.

The Thunderstack uses an Apache webserver with NGINX as a reverse proxy. The database is powered by MariaDB.

As for object cache, both Memcached and Redis Cache are available. In fact, if you use their 2GB RAM or higher plans, you get access to Object Cache Pro plugin which can considerably speed up your applications.

Since Cloudways control panel allows you to control both the server and applications, it's a bit complex and there is a learning curve.

Blogging Ocean is currently hosted on Cloudways and here are its PageSpeed Scores on mobile

Blogging Ocean PageSpeed Score Mobile

And here are the scores on Desktop

Blogging Ocean PageSpeed Score Desktop

As you can see my website loads in under 0.5 seconds on Desktop and 1 Second on slow 4G mobile connection. On GTMetrix with unthrottled connection speed, the website loads in just over 0.3 seconds

Blogging Ocean GTMetrix

Of course, there's more to it than just web hosting. I've optimized my website pretty well. But still this shows that Cloudways is indeed one of the Fastest WordPress Hosting In UK

For more information check out my Cloudways Review 2023

Pros Of Cloudways

  • Fast WordPress Hosting
  • Highly scalable even for very high traffic websites
  • Hourly Billing with cap on Monthly Bills
  • Easy WordPress Staging
  • Developer-friendly hosting features

Cons Of Cloudways

  • Tricky customer support

2. Hostinger: Cheap And Fast WordPress Hosting UK

Hostinger Logo

4.4

Hostinger Summary

Summary: Hostinger is a decent hosting company that offers affordable web hosting plans, all powered by LiteSpeed Webserver. It is one of the quickest hostings I tested. Hostinger has servers in the UK as well as the Netherlands.

  • Hosting Type: Managed WordPress and Shared Hosting
  • Nearest Server: United Kingdom
  • Pricing: Starting £1.49/month

Special Offer: Blogging Ocean readers get free additional 10% discount on all Hostinger Hosting plans. You can check out Hostinger Coupon Codes

Hostinger Details

Hostinger is one of the most popular and fastest-growing hosting companies. The main reason for Hostinger's popularity is high-speed servers at affordable pricing.

All the plans at Hostinger are powered by LiteSpeed Webserver. This is against most other hosting providers who reserve the LiteSpeed webservers to their top-tier plans.

To the best of my knowledge, Hostinger offers the cheapest plans with LiteSpeed Webserver. So, you can get hosting with LiteSpeed Webserver starting as low as £0.99. Isn't that great?

Another great thing about Hostinger is its near-perfect onboarding for WordPress users. As part of its onboarding, you can select one of the readymade templates available at Starter Templates by Astra themes.

So, fifteen minutes is all it will take you right from signup to a beautiful website.

Hostinger offers both Managed WordPress plans and Shared Hosting plans. However, even though the former is costlier, I don't see anything in the Managed WordPress plans that's not included in the Shared Hosting plans.

So, if you are planning to go with Hostinger, make sure to choose their Shared Hosting plans.

Also, Hostinger's support is somewhat slow. But you do expect that at their price point and their speedy growth.

For more information check out my Hostinger Review 2023

Pros Of Hostinger

  • LiteSpeed Webserver even with cheapest plan
  • Excellent user on-boarding
  • Affordable pricing
  • The premium, and higher plans include free domain names

Cons Of Hostinger

  • Slow customer support
  • No daily backups with the entry-level plans

3. Nexcess

Nexcess Latest Logo

4.5

Nexcess Summary

Summary: Nexcess is a mid-range Managed WordPress Hosting owned by Liquid Web that has two data centers in the UK. It is powered by Apache Webserver with Nginx as a reverse proxy. It also offers free Cloudflare enterprise CDN, Nexcess has two data centers in the UK, a rare among hosting companies.

  • Hosting Type: Managed WordPress
  • Nearest Server: Surrey and Sussex
  • Pricing: Starting $21/month

Nexcess Details

Nexcess is a sub-brand of Liquid web that handles Managed WordPress, Managed WooCommerce, and Managed Magento hosting.

Nexcess has not one but two data centers in the UK, one in South Surrey and the other one in South West Sussex.

Like any other Managed WordPress Hosting, Nexcess too provides the expected features like automated WordPress core and plugin updates, a one-click staging site, and automated backups.

Nexcess uses a server stack consisting of Apache webserver with Nginx as a reverse proxy, a sort of standard with most non-LiteSpeed Managed WordPress Hosting companies. The stack also includes Varnish Cache and PHP OPCache. Nexcess also includes free Cloudflare enterprise CDN if you have global clients.

Another noteworthy feature of Nexcess is the Plugin Performance Monitor. Since plugins are the usual culprits for slow website performance, Nexcess lets you monitor the performance of each of the installed plugins and also update it daily to understand the impact of plugin updates.

I have used Nexcess for Blogging Ocean for a short span of time before I moved to A2 Hosting mainly for the LiteSpeed Webserver.

Pros Of Nexcess

  • Two datacenters in the UK
  • Fast Server stack
  • Cloudflare Enterprise CDN included with all the plans
  • Generous number of PHP workers
  • Plugin performance monitor tool

Cons of Nexcess

  • A few customers have complained about their support quality

4. WPX Hosting

Fastest WordPress Hosting

4.7

WPX Hosting Summary

Summary: WPX Hosting is one of the best options for WordPress hosting with its fast page load times as well as blazing fast support. And since they have servers in the UK, it is an ideal choice if you are looking for Fastest WordPress Hosting in the UK.

  • Hosting Type: Managed WordPress
  • Nearest Server: London
  • Pricing: Starting $25/month

Special Offer: Blogging Ocean readers get free 50% off for the first month on all plans. Use the Coupon Code WHB50

WPX Hosting Details

WPX Hosting isn't among the most popular WordPress Hosting. However, it's among the best options for Managed WordPress Hosting.

WPX is one of the few hosting companies that offer a LiteSpeed webserver that is way faster than the standard Apache Webserver that comes with most hosting providers.

Also, they provide their own CDN which is again optimized for WordPress. All of these make WPX Hosting to be one of the fastest WordPress Hosting Providers in the UK.

However, the main reason for WPX's popularity is its blazing fast support with an average response time of 30 seconds. Isn't that quick?

And it's just not the speed of replies, their customer support is quite knowledgable. To top it off, like a truly Managed WordPress Hosting, they even help you with WordPress-related issues that are not related to hosting.

Also, although they offer best-in-class security, due to any loopholes in your themes or plugins, if your WordPress site is compromised, they even clean it up for you.

So with WPX, you can put your focus on your business.

On the negative side, though it's value for money, WPX is on the costlier side. Also, they don't have any VPS or dedicated plans. So, if your website grows too big, they will ask you to move out.

Blogging Ocean was hosted on WPX Hosting for almost a year before I switched to Nexcess.

Pros Of WPX Hosting

  • Among the fastest WordPress Hosting in UK
  • Data Center in London, UK
  • Powered by LiteSpeed WebServers
  • Quick And Knowledgeable customer support
  • Automatic and Manual Backups
  • Easy WordPress Staging

Cons Of WPX Hosting

  • Price is on the expensive side
  • Limited scalability

5. Kinsta

Kinsta Logo

4.3

Kinsta Summary

Summary: Kinsta is a premium Managed Hosting provider that provides a lot of features. However, it isn't among the most affordable hosting and personally, I feel Cloudways and WPX Hosting are a much better choice and value for money. Since Kinsta uses GCP servers, it has a datacenter in London.

  • Hosting Type: Managed WordPress
  • Nearest Server: London
  • Pricing: Starting $35/month

Kinsta Details

Kinsta is another premium Managed WordPress hosting provider on this list. In fact, it's the costliest hosting provider on this list

Like Cloudways, Kinsta does not have its own servers. It procures servers from Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and then adds its own server optimizations, security, and panel to it.

For hardware, Kinsta uses GCP's C2 servers which are one of the most high-end servers in the market right now.

Kinsta uses LXD container technology to isolate websites from each other. So even though Kinsta is not a VPS, you get dedicated resources for your website.

This makes sure your website is not affected by any other website on the server. It's also more secure.

For DNS, Kinsta uses Amazon Route 53 premium DNS for faster DNS resolution. As for caching, Kinsta uses server-side caching.

What could be negative about this caching setup is that Kinsta does not allow you to use any cache or performance plugins except WP Rocket, which again is a paid product.

For me, the LiteSpeed Cache plugin works very well even on non-LiteSpeed servers. It depends on individuals, but for me, it's a deal-breaker.

With Kinsta, you also get free access to Cloudflare's enterprise plan. This can really speed up your website.

Apart from this Kinsta comes with other regular WordPress features like one-click staging and automatic backups.

Pros Of Kinsta

  • Server-level caching leads to quick speed without any tweaks
  • C2 Servers of Google Cloud Platform used
  • Datacenter in London
  • Websites Isolated with LXD containers
  • Amazon Route 53 DNS used for quick DNS resolution

Cons Of Kinsta

  • Plans are on the expensive side
  • No performance plugins supported except WP Rocket which is a paid plugin

6. A2 Hosting

A2 Hosting Logo

4.4

A2 Hosting Summary

Summary: A2 Hosting is one of the few hosting companies that are highly focused on website speed. Its managed hosting plans as well Turbo Shared Hosting plans are powered by LiteSpeed Webserver and use NVMe SSD for fast loading websites. The nearest data center of A2 Hosting is in the Netherlands

  • Hosting Type: Managed WordPress And Shared Hosting
  • Nearest Server: Netherlands
  • Pricing: Starting $2.99/month for shared hosting and $11.99/month for Managed WP

A2 Hosting Details

A2 Hosting is a popular web hosting company that offers both Managed WordPress and Shared Web Hosting plans.

A2 Hosting's servers are located in the Netherlands. So, if you are looking for UK hosting, A2 Hosting isn't the right choice for you

Unlike Hostinger, A2 Hosting's managed Hosting plans are fully Managed and come with value add-ons. However, their Turbo Shared hosting plans are equally good if you have budget constraints.

A2 Hosting's Managed WordPress hosting plans as well as the Turbo Shared Hosting plans are powered by LiteSpeed webserver and use NVMe SSD storage.

Also, all the A2 Hosting plans including Managed WordPress and Shared Hosting are optimized for WordPress. So, irrespective of what plans you choose, you will get good speeds.

The major difference between Managed WordPress plans and Shared Hosting plans is that the former comes with various WordPress-specific features like easy WordPress staging and cloning, 1-click website hardening, automated Jetpack Backups, and more.

Another major difference is that Shared Hosting plans use cPanel as the control panel while Managed WordPress plans are powered by Plesk Control Panel.

From the support point of view too, A2 Hosting is great. Though they offer support both through chat as well as tickets, the chat option is restricted to basic queries.

So, in most cases, you'd be better off creating a ticket. On the positive side, the TAT for tickets is great too.

As of the time of writing this article, Blogging Ocean is hosted on the Turbo Plan of A2 Hosting. Though, I am considering switching to Cloudways as I feel it is a much better deal.

Pros Of A2 Hosting

  • A2 Hosting is highly focused on making your website fast
  • Managed WP and Turbo Shared Hosting plans powered by LiteSpeed Webserver
  • NVMe Storage
  • Shared Hosting and Managed WordPress Hosting available

Cons Of A2 Hosting

  • Plesk control panel with Managed WordPress Hosting
  • Nearest data center in Netherlands

7. Dreamhost

Fastest WordPress Hosting

4.4

Dreamhost Summary

Summary: Dreamhost offers both Managed WordPress Hosting and Shared Hosting Plans. It is officially recommended by WordPress.org. The biggest disadvantage of Dreamhost is that it has servers only in the US.

  • Hosting Type: Managed WordPress And Shared Hosting
  • Nearest Server: United States
  • Pricing: Starting $2.95/month for shared hosting and $16.95/month for Managed WP

Dreamhost Details

Dreamhost is among the lesser-known web hosting companies on this list. However, few people know that Dreamhost is officially recommended by WordPress.org.

At Dreamhost, you can get both Managed WordPress as well as Shared Hosting plans. While the shared hosting plans are quite affordably priced, the Managed Hosting plans are mid-tier.

Both the Shared Hosting plans and Managed WordPress plans come with a free domain and free domain privacy. This is good considering that most hosting companies charge for domain privacy more than the price of the domain itself.

The Managed WordPress hosting includes standard features like one-click staging and Automated Jetpack Backups. The CDN is provided by Jetpack and is available with Dreampress Plus and Dreampress Pro plans only.

One of the biggest drawbacks of Dreamhost is that it has servers only in the US. So unless you are using a CDN, your website will be slowed down due to higher TTFB.

Also, its control panel is quite confusing and there is a learning curve before you get hold of things.

Pros Of Dreamhost

  • Officially Recommended by WordPress
  • Managed WP and Shared Hosting plans available
  • Shared Hosting is affordably priced

Cons Of Dreamhost

  • Data Centers in the US
  • Control panel is not user-friendly

How To Choose The Fastest WordPress Hosting For UK

Below are some of the factors your should consider while choosing the Fastest WordPress Hosting For UK

1. Data Center Location

The data center location is one of the most important factors to consider while choosing WordPress hosting for your website. Choose a data center that is in the UK or near it. This will help you deliver faster loading times and improve the overall user experience.

2. Uptime

The best WordPress hosting providers offer high uptime, which means your site will be accessible most of the time. This is important because if your site is down, potential customers or clients will not be able to find you or access your products or services. Make sure to choose a provider that offers 99.9% uptime or higher.

3. Speed

Another important factor to consider is speed. Your site's speed is determined by several factors, including the quality of your hosting, the size and number of files on your site, and your site's coding. Choose a provider that can give you fast loading times.

4. Support

When your site goes down or encounters an issue, you'll need to contact customer support. Make sure to choose a provider that offers 24/7 customer support so someone will always be available to help you.

5. Pricing

Of course, you'll also want to consider pricing when choosing a WordPress hosting provider. Prices can vary depending on the features and quality of the provider. Make sure to compare prices and choose a provider that offers a good value for the price.

6. Security

Finally, you'll want to make sure your WordPress site is secure. Choose a provider that offers security features like malware scanning and removal, firewalls, and DDoS protection. This will help keep your site and its data safe from hackers and other online threats.

Final Verdict

WPX Hosting is one of the fastest WordPress Hosting UK provider. It also has a reliable customer support. But it is on the expensive side and lacks scalability.

If you are having a high traffic website, Cloudways is the best WordPress Hosting UK Provider. However, if you are low on budget, you can consider going with Hostinger
